Celebrating 20 Years

2007 saw an important milestone for Goodman private wealth advisers; 20 years in business.

Our annual client seminar, held at the Gallery of Modern Art, was a celebration where we reflected on the past 20 years.

Our key note speaker was Historian and cultural heritage consultant Helen Gregory. Helen has considerable knowledge of Queensland and Brisbane history, having written about the Brisbane River and the Mater Hospital, both Queensland icons. Her well researched presentation on the history of Goodman private wealth advisers was a delight.

Helen took us on a trip from 1987 when the firm was first established by John Goodman as a sole practitioner, to the present day, as a permanent institution with three principals and seven staff. Helen reminded us of corresponding events in history such as the 1987 sharemarket crash, interest rates at 15% per annum and the recession that we had to have.

There were memories too of important events in the firm's history such as in 1989 when Geraldine Simpson joined the firm, the launch of the firm's procedures manual in 1999, the change of name from John Goodman & Company to Goodman private wealth advisers in 2004 and the firm's Asset Innovation Award in 2005 and again in 2007.

Helen remarked that "20 years is a significant milestone in the changing world of financial advice. Very few privately owned financial advice firms have achieved this milestone in Queensland." It is indeed a significant milestone and one that we were delighted to enjoy with our clients, colleagues, friends and family who have been an important part of our history.
