Private Family Office - Official Launch

Brisbane based professional services firm, Goodman private wealth advisers, have launched a suite of services designed for high very net worth families, the Private Family Office.

The new service was officially launched this week by the Queensland Treasurer, the Honourable Andrew Fraser MP, at a luncheon attended by a small group of community, business and government leaders.

The Private Family Office expands the range of services that are already provided to the clients of Goodman private wealth advisers. In addition to its traditional wealth planning, investment selection, and technical strategy advice, the firm now provides services and advice in three new areas:

  • Family Record - administration, filing and bookkeeping;
  • Family Given - philanthropy advice; and
  • Family Legacy - intergenerational wealth transfer advice.

The Chief Executive of Goodman private wealth advisers, Brad Church, said "The launch of the Private Family Office is a significant event for our firm, and a significant event for those families we seek to help. We are following a path that few in Australia have trodden before."

In relation to the type of client that will be served by the Private Family Office, Church said, "The families that seek family office services include successful business owners, senior executives of public companies, and those who inherit significant wealth."

Senior Adviser James Goodman said "We have a unique understanding of the particular issues faced by wealthy families. These include building a sustainable financial legacy for the family, and concerns about the possible detrimental impact the family's wealth might have on their children. We now have the services to further help these families, and also the enduring motivation to partner with them into the next generation."

The Private Family Office suite of services were developed after gaining knowledge into the needs of high net worth families over 22 years of professional practice. In 2008 Goodman sponsored a research project carried out by the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). The services have been continuously refined during a two year trial.

One of the new offerings is Philanthropic advice. James Goodman said "Many wealthy families want to set the foundation for a permanent legacy in the community, in part to give back as thanks for their success. A charitable focus allows families to fulfil those legacy ambitions. The QUT research indicated a low knowledge of philanthropic options, and this service fills that gap."

In launching the new service suite, Church said "The Private Family Office service suite allows us to continue to fulfil our stated purpose which is - To help our clients invest and use their wealth for their own benefit, for their family's benefit, and for the benefit of the community." These new services compliment the professional landscape in Queensland. They are a valuable resource for high net worth families and for the community.

Goodman private wealth advisers was founded in 1987 by now Chairman John Goodman. Brad Church (Chief Executive) and James Goodman (Senior Adviser) became principals of the firm in 2004. Both James and John Goodman have backgrounds in Chartered Accounting. The firm has been providing private wealth advice for successful families for 22 years.
